Negotiation Brief: Appointment Process and Tenure and Promotion Evaluation Process in the Faculty of Law

This is the third in the series of Negotiation Briefs in which we share extracts from the TFA arbitration briefs that were submitted to the Arbitrator during the last round of Collective Bargaining, which commenced in April 2023 and concluded with an arbitration award in July 2024. This third brief describes the TFA proposal for amendments to Articles 4 and 5, addressing the Law Faculty hiring process, and the Law Faculty evaluation and tenure review process.

Negotiation Brief: Associate Chairs, Program Directors etc.

The TFA’s proposed new article that was rejected would have required that (largely department driven) procedures be followed to define the duties and responsibilities, minimum qualifications, selection criteria, appointment process, compensation, term, and evaluation of the positions of Assistant/Associate Chairs/Directors, Program Directors, First Year Program Director, Practicum Director, Zone-Practicum Director, Co-Op Director, Graduate Program Directors.

Negotiation Brief: Campus Health and Safety

During the negotiating committee’s preparation for bargaining, TFA members’ feelings of physical insecurity on campus and the unhygienic and slovenly nature of our campus, as well as the inadequacy of much of the equipment and teaching environment were raised with a resounding regularity.
